Flannel Baby Rag Quilt

So, I hope that everyone had a great weekend. It has rained here all weekend and I am ready for some sunshine for a change. Since the weather was so dreary outside I decided it would be a good opportunity to work on the baby rag quilt. I can not wait for ms. Lillian to receive her first baby rag quilt.

As I am typing this post the rain is coming down so hard and the wind has begun to pick up. We are feeling the effects of Tropical Storm Debbie and the rain is going to continue into this week. So guess what I will be doing? You guessed it! Quilting. I hope that each of you have a wonderful week.

Until next time, Happy Quilting!

Design Board

Today I spent time placing squares on a design board that I made. Can you guess how I made it? Well I took a large piece of batting and placed it on the wall along with some push pins. The fabric sticks right to the batting with no issues. “I love it”. Before I always had to use the cutting table or a bed to lay out the design. Sometimes the cutting table was not large enough for the quilt design that I would make. Well guess I had better get the quilt sewn now. I hope that each of you have a great weekend! Oh leave me a comment and tell me how you made your design board.

Until next time, happy quilting!

Prep work done

Good morning!  I finally got the prep work done for another baby rag quilt. If you have never made a rag quilt you should give it a try. They are really fun to make and easy to put together. I can not wait to get the quilt finished and send it off to ms. Lillian who was born on June 7th 2012.

Until next time happy quilting!

Fun weekend

Another weekend has flown by us once again. So did everyone have a great weekend?  Saturday I spent the day looking for the perfect dress for my son’s wedding in October. I walk into Talbots  and there to the right is the dress  that has my name all over it and, I tried the dress on and it fit perfect. Knowing the wedding is in Miami on the beach, I thought I would add some black accessories to tone down the pink a little since the wedding is in October. Of course the weather is still warm in Miami in October.

Jo Ann’s Fabric was having a big sale so, of course, I had to stop and check it out. I bought some material to make another baby rag quilt for a  new family member who arrived June 7th and her name is Lillian Elizabeth. Can’t wait to get the quilt completed.

Well today is my day to volunteer at the hospital so guess I will close for now. I hope you have a great week!

Quilt Sashing

As most of you probably know, I have participated in a quilt-along over at Crafty Gemini. Well, I finally finished the sashing on the quilt and I like the way it turned out.  I decided to use the brown since I had so much of it and will use it for the backing as well. For this quilt I used what fabric I had on hand and it was a bit of a challenge.

When applying the sashing to the center of the quilt top. I ran into a slight issue. I measured the center and came up with 56″ inches and my fabric was only 44″ inches wide. So I had a yard and 1/2 and just cut the width of the fabric instead of the length and it came out fine. If you do not have enough fabric you can piece the sashing together to make one long strip.  Next, I will be assembling the quilt top layers such as the backing, batting and the quilt top which is known as the “quilt sandwich”.

I hope everyone has a great week and happy quilting!
