The past two weeks has been an emotional roller coaster ride for my husband and I. It all started with a phone call from my father-in-law saying my mother-in-law had a heart attack and was in the hospital. The doctors said she needed three by passes and two holes on the heart that needed patched. The doctors informed us that most people do not survive this type of heart attack.
The doctors decided to let my mother-in-law gain some strength before the surgery she was facing. While gaining some of her strength back, her kidneys were not working probably. So the doctors decided to go forward with the surgery on Mother’s Day. The surgery lasted about eight hours and she did well. Immediately after surgery she was taken to the ICU unit and had two nurses with her at all time.
The first couple of days after the surgery she was sleeping a lot. However, when I would ask her a question she would move her head. So, I knew at that point she could hear what people were saying. Each day she has improved and seems to be moving in the right direction. As of last night, the doctors have taken her off the dialysis machine and she has only one IV in. Hopefully in a couple of days she will go to a regular room.
Once my husband and I saw his mother improving we decided to head home. Now we are just trying to unwind and get things back to normal. Thought I would share with you what has happened the past two weeks. Take care!
