Simple Crochet Dishcloth

Happy Thursday!  Taking a break from sewing and decided that I would crochet some dishcloths. Crocheting dishcloths are so easy to make and you can make them any size that you wish. You will notice that the dishcloths in the pictures are really not square but who really cares “right.”  The only time you would need to be precise is when making sweaters and etc.

Here are the supplies needed.

100% Pure Cotton Worsted Weight. I use Lion Brand Yarn (cotton)

Hook Size- Look on the packaging of the yarn to see what size hook is needed. When making the dishcloths remember it really does not matter. The hook that I used was F-4. Crochet Hook

Scissors

Yarn Darning Needle  used for weaving the ends in.

How to crochet dishcloths:

  1. Take the skein of yarn and stick one index finger inside the skein and do the same on the other end. The two index finger should be touching, now move the two index fingers around inside the skein and see if you feel a small ball of yarn pull it out and this will be where you start. Trust me do this step because if you do not you will have a mess on your hands with the yarn.
  2. Make a slip knot If you click on the link it will show you how to make the slip knot.
  3. Chain 34 stitches with your crochet hook
  4. Insert the hook into the 2nd chain and single stitch all the way across. You should have a total of 33 single stitches. Once you reach the end of each row chain one and turn your work.
  5. You will continue the single stitch until you reach the size that you want. You can make about 28 rows.
  6. Cut the yarn and tie off and weave in both loose ends with your darning needle. Make sure that you get a darning needle that you can put the yarn through the eye of the needle.

Things to remember: The size of dishcloth is up to you. If you are new to crocheting, I would recommend that you work with a bigger crochet hook and make the stitches loose. This way you can see the stitches better and will be easier to work with.

Here is a link that you can check out that has all kinds of dishcloths. Happy crocheting!
